Introduction
Hangre (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a mobile application developed by Brick Labs LLC, a Michigan limited liability company. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect information when you use the Hangre mobile application (the “App”) and any related services. By using Hangre, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. We may update this Policy from time to time, and we will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Policy within the App or on our website at hangre.app.
Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to make Hangre work and to improve your experience. The categories of information we collect are described below.
Camera & Photo Access
Hangre asks for permission to access your device’s camera and photo library so you can scan ingredients in your kitchen, refrigerator, or pantry. When you take a photo or upload an image, that image is transmitted securely to our third-party AI providers (described below) for the sole purpose of identifying the ingredients shown. We do not retain your photos on our servers after processing is complete. We never use your photos for advertising, profiling, facial recognition, or any purpose unrelated to generating recipe suggestions for you.
Ingredient Data
When the App identifies ingredients in your photos, the resulting ingredient list (for example: “chicken, rice, soy sauce”) is stored on your device and, optionally, in our backend so that we can generate recipe suggestions and remember what’s in your kitchen across sessions. You can delete this ingredient data at any time from within the App.
AI-Processed Content
To generate recipes, we send your ingredient list and basic preferences (such as dietary restrictions you optionally provide) to our third-party AI providers. The recipes returned to you, along with your interactions with them (saving, cooking, rating), may be stored to improve your future suggestions. We do not sell, rent, or share this content with advertisers or other third parties for marketing purposes.
Account & Device Information
If you create an account, we collect your email address and any other information you provide. We also automatically collect basic technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, language preference, anonymous usage analytics, and crash logs, which help us improve the App and fix bugs.
Subscription & Billing Information
Hangre subscriptions are processed through Apple’s App Store. We do not collect or store your credit card number, billing address, or other payment details. Apple manages all payment processing in accordance with Apple’s own privacy policies. We do receive information from Apple confirming that you have an active subscription and the type of subscription you hold.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: (1) operate, maintain, and improve the App; (2) identify ingredients from the photos you submit; (3) generate personalized recipe suggestions; (4) provide customer support; (5) detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical issues; (6) comply with legal obligations; and (7) communicate with you about your account, product updates, or important service changes. We do not use your data to train third-party AI models, sell your data to advertisers, or build advertising profiles about you.
Third-Party Services
To operate Hangre, we rely on the following categories of third-party service providers. These providers receive only the limited information needed to perform their function and are contractually required to protect that information.
AI Providers
We use OpenAI for image recognition (identifying ingredients in your photos) and Anthropic for recipe generation. When your photos and ingredient lists are sent to these providers for processing, the data is transmitted securely. Per their published policies at the time of writing, OpenAI and Anthropic do not use API-submitted data to train their models. We encourage you to review their privacy practices at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy and anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
Payment Processors
All subscription payments are processed by Apple via the App Store. We do not see or store your payment information.
Analytics
We use industry-standard analytics and crash-reporting services to understand how the App is used in aggregate and to fix bugs. These tools may collect anonymized device identifiers and usage events. They do not collect your name, photos, or content.
Subscriptions & Billing
Hangre is available via paid subscription tiers (weekly and annual) with an optional free trial. Subscriptions are billed through your Apple App Store account at the price disclosed at the point of purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings. Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policies. Deleting the App does not automatically cancel your subscription.
Your Rights & Choices
You have meaningful control over your information.
Data Access & Deletion
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or request that we delete your account and associated data, by emailing hello@bricklabs.dev. We will respond within 30 days.
Camera & Photo Permissions
You can revoke Hangre’s access to your camera or photos at any time through your device’s privacy settings. The App will continue to work for browsing existing recipes, but new ingredient scans will be unavailable.
Notifications
You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through your device settings.
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, to request deletion of your personal information, to opt out of any sale or sharing of your personal information (we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising), and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights.
European Economic Area Residents (GDPR)
If you reside in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port your personal data. You may also withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@bricklabs.dev.
Children's Privacy
Hangre is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that is the applicable age of digital consent), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at hello@bricklabs.dev and we will delete the information promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this Policy and, where appropriate, notify you within the App. Your continued use of Hangre after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
